Barrymore: I’m not a good actor

Barrymore:-I’m-not-a-good-actor
Drew Barrymore doesn’t see herself as a good actor.
The Wedding Singer star has been acting in films since she was only five years old, with her breakout role coming in the 1981 classic E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.
But the 39-year-old has revealed she doesn’t rate herself as an actress.
“I don’t think I’m a good actor. I feel like it’s fake and yucky and it just doesn’t ring true,” Drew told the New York Times.
However, Drew puts this down to the fact that she has always followed a piece of advice that Steven Spielberg, the director of E.T told her: “Don’t act your characters. Be your characters”.
“If you research and you study and make it personal, you just become that person, and it’s your truth and everything else around you falls away,” Drew continued. “Then you’re telling the truth, it’s not lying, it’s not fake. So he [Steven] gave me that wisdom because at six, I guess I was comfortable and more humorous than I would have remembered now.”
After a period of teen rebellion involving drink and drugs, Drew managed to get her life and career back on track and star in a string of successful films including 50 First Dates and Never Been Kissed.
She has also branched out into directing, but without that sage piece of advice, her career may never have transitioned from child star to adult star so successfully.
“Once I got older and kept continuing acting, I don’t know if I would have succeeded without that advice, because it’s the thing that saved me,” Drew explained. “I’m not an actor, I’m a pretender.”
