Tweets of the Week

It was a feel-good week in the news, which was translated over to Twitter in the form of #SFBatkid. Unless you’ve been away from a Wi-Fi connection in the last three days (or just love avoiding news that’s heartwarming and good), the li’l Bat stormed the streets of Gotham (also known as San Francisco for the other 354 days out of the year) to take out The Riddler and The Penguin. The hero, whose secret identity was revealed as a 5-year-old named Miles, received all the gratitude you’d expect from the grateful city and banished much of the cynicism, hate and subtweets we’ve been conditioned to block out on the Internet. Really, if Batkid can exist, the world isn’t so bad after all.
This week also saw moments of deep wishful thinking from comedy fans worldwide when Andy Kaufman’s brother, Michael, stated that he was still alive. Although that would be incredible, our own staff writer Shane Ryan said it best: “It’s hard to tell whether Michael Kaufman is perpetrating a hoax for his own fame and amusement (probable) or just got bamboozled because he wants to believe his brother is alive (sad if true, but a stretch), but one thing all reasonable people can agree upon is that Andy Kaufman died in 1984 as a result of lung cancer.” Coincidentally (or was it?)most of R.E.M. reunited for a performance of a song that was not “Man on the Moon.”
